About The Artist.... Simone Hester

Simone Hester was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised on the far south side of the city. She found an interest in art at an early age. At the recommendation of her teachers, she began private art lessons at a small art studio in the suburbs of Chicago. She was tutored, mentored and exposed to a variety of art mediums from calligraphy, etching, Chinese watercolors, acryllics, and oil painting. There she developed a love for drawing and painting. She broadened her art education by taking a variety of elective art classes in high school and college. Upon college graduation, her first professional position allowed her to work in graphic designs and further her knowledge of computers. Once given a digital camera, she combined her love of computers, painting, and photographs to develop her very own technique in creative digital photography. The computer has become her paintbrush and allows her to stretch the natural boundaries that a typical photograph is held to. She recently left the traditional workforce to work on her art full time and contribute to her website (http://www.simonehester.com/) and write her blog on photography, art, and everything else she finds creative.

Beer Stein Revisited

Well, I spent a good portion of my day working on new pictures and engaging in the creative process.  Yesterday, I showed off a pretty cool picture that I captured of a beer stein.  The original picture itself turned out great with the light and shadows falling just right.  To refresh your memory; here is the original...

Pretty cool? I absolutely loved it, but my true passion is adding that artistic flair and so I went to work on the picture playing the with shadows and the metal lid.  I wanted to add more drama and the final product is here:

I changed the mood of the picture by adding deeper shadows and roughing it up a bit.  Let me know what you think.

Remember, alongside of following me on my blog, you can visit my full gallery at www.simonehester.com or you can find me on Facebook (Simone Hester Creative Photography) or even follow me on Twitter @shcreativephoto.

Have a great weekend.

The source of the light and the way the shadows have fallen, wow I can't wait to work on it.  Check back in soon to see what I create.

The Loose Tooth

My son has been telling me for a couple of weeks now that he had a loose tooth; and he couldn't wait for it to come out.  For him that means a magic moment because he knows that the Tooth Fairy will visit him this evening as he lays asleep.  For a mom, it's a magic moment that means capture the moment and share with family and friends.  I always stress the importance of having your camera with you to capture a moment.  Because that is what a picture does, capture the moment. That moment can be as simple as a tooth coming out, a first kiss as husband and wife at a wedding, the thrill of your kids face as they ride their first roller coaster, the sunset that you and your husband share on vacation, a 80th birthday party.  This is the thing, your picture captures that memory and each time you look at that image, it brings back feelings of that moment.

That is the great thing about technology today!  You can capture that moment with your camera or now with a phone.  The newest phones today have phenomenal picture taking ability combined with the ability to upload anyone or any site at the push of a couple of buttons.  This image was taken with my Motorola Droid phone and I was able to quickly send it to my husband so he could share in the moment.

What does this mean in a nutshell?  Take the moment to snap the picture, you will always have that memory preserved!

Welcome

I am proud to begin my first blog.  The small biography above details how I began, but let me tell you how I plan to utilize my blog.  I am an artist by heart and my work is creative digital photography.  That basically means that once I capture a shot, I get creative with it using photoshop.  I love creating something new out of something standard.  It gives the viewers a unique way to look at something.  I am excited to share my experiences with you.  I will from time to time post the photos I have worked on or that I am currently working on and show you the before shot.  To show you the creative process that I engage in, to let you in on my frustrations, if I can't quite capture the look.

And that's just photography....

I see art in everything, from a unique store front to the way a barista makes that classic cup of coffee.  I am a big coffee drinker and love to share my personal favorite spots to have coffee, desserts, and enjoy the company of good friends.  I love to travel, read, and the list goes on.  Anything that engages my brain, I am a fan of.  So, as I said, this blog will be primarily dedicated to my photography and artwork.  However, from time to time, I will throw interesting tidbits of other information here.  Just like my pictures aren't the traditional photograph, I will venture from the traditional within my blog.

So thanks again for your interest, and for stopping by.  On one of the sidebars you will see some of my art work that is currently streaming on Flickr, or you can visit my website (www.simonehester.com)
